GT Open 2025: Portimao Recap

Round 1 of the International GT Open Championship for 2025 kicked off in Portimao, Portugal, with 31 cars all taking part in 3 different categories to take the win in their respective class. In the PRO-AM class, Aaron and teammate Steve Jans achieved a solid fourth place in qualifying on Friday, putting them in a good position for race 1 the following day.

Saturday brought some warmer track temperatures and plenty of sun for race 1. After just over an hour, Aaron and Steve had climbed a place to third and held it until the end of the race, claiming their first podium of the season. Out of 1st to 4th place, 3 of the cars were Mercedes AMG GT3's, so the track obviously suited the car well!

Day 2 proved more turbulent, as it quickly became clear during qualifying for the second race that downshifting wasn’t possible (not exactly ideal!). As a result, they managed just one lap before having to return to the pits. As such, they were left to start race 2 in last place.
Despite this, they battled their way through the field to take 5th place in their class—a solid confirmation that their pace was strong and consistent.
